The Reflections series transforms the mercurial surface of the River Thames into a compelling exploration of atmosphere, light, and memory. Grounded in London’s fluid weather, the collection approaches the river as a living optical lens—filtering sunlight, drifting mist, shifting clouds, and ghostly architectural silhouettes into a singular visual experience. Central to the series is a dense, tactile impasto technique that elevates paint into a rich physical medium. Through multi-layered application, dragging, scraping, and partial coverage of contrasting pigments, the canvases take on the heavy, woven presence of a medieval tapestry or weathered mosaic. Underneath soft, milky veils of grey, pearl, and ochre, vibrant underlayers of fiery crimson, turquoise, mustard, and violet flicker through. This juxtaposition of hidden and exposed color creates an active optical vibration, channelling Impressionist perception into a deeply modern abstract language.
