The Black Square Series

The Black Square series refers to Malevich’s iconic and revolutionary Black Square painting of 1915. As is often the case in Shemza’s work, the artist uses the abstract visual language of the past and fuses these concepts with technology to try and build a bridge between the concept and a contemporary audience. The pieces use LED light panels which fade on and off to an algorithm that changes over time creating a meditative effect.
