The Box

This series of 4 paintings is based upon a short film which is centred around a young boy who enjoys playing with a large cardboard box. The boy imagines that the box becomes a coach rumbling across the prairie, a steam train puffing through the forest, a stunt plane diving and twisting in the sky and finally a space capsule on its way to the moon. The series explores the growth of the child’s imagination as the box is continually transformed and reinvented, whilst it remains a mere inanimate object through the eyes of an adult.
