Aquatic Studies explores life within fluid environments through watercolor and mixed media. Sea turtles, sharks, koi and jellyfish become subjects for observing movement, interaction, transparency and the relationship between a living organism and its surroundings. Water is both environment and material throughout the collection. Pigment flows, overlaps, accumulates and escapes complete control, allowing the behavior of watercolor itself to echo qualities of aquatic life. Rather than presenting each animal as an isolated subject, these works consider the visible organism as part of a larger living environment.
