City/Country Studies: 2022-2023
These works examine how renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy are being used within urban and rural environments, and questions how we currently allocate and direct our demands for power. Scenes of city buildings, corns fields, livestock, grids, and bridges are created from materials such as mesh, denim, and canvas, while thin and thickly painted allusions of the body intertwine with and, at times become part of the machine or form of infrastructure. These collaged elements not only create a graphic and tactile contrast, but more specifically recall the industrial processes required to produce the products that fuel and sustain our economy.
