Noli Me Tangere borrows Christ's words to Mary Magdalene, do not touch me, as its title. The series stages encounters built around doubt, refusal, abduction and enchantment, a risen Christ turning from Mary Magdalene, Thomas demanding proof before belief, the Sabine women seized by force, Rinaldo held captive by Armida's spell, all restaged in contemporary clothing against a black background, stripped of their religious, historical or literary setting. Restrained rather than dramatic, each painting holds its encounter in suspension, asking what it takes for one person to recognise, believe, resist or yield to another.
