On the Waterfront: Toronto

These oil paintings are based on photos I took of the Toronto lakeshore while walking or biking along the waterfront trails. I draw inspiration from 17th century Dutch city/seascapes, but generally I work on a smaller scale – most pieces are just 12” wide x 8” high – using brighter, more fully saturated colours. I apply opaque and glazed layers of paint directly (with no under drawing) to blank canvas, or wood panel, on a small scale (typically 12” x 8”).
