MARCEL DUCHAMP

This is one of the subdivisions of "The Paintings Section from Davis Museum Barcelona" (www.davismuseum.com) that highlights portraits of Marcel Duchamp, the French artist behind the "Boîte-en-valise," the first artist-conceived exhibition space for self-display. Duchamp inaugurates an art historical tradition of artists founding their own museums, continued by Robert Filliou with the "Galerie Légitime" and Marcel Broodthaers with his "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles." This lineage extends to the "Davis Museum Barcelona," established in 2009.
