Alsican

The Alsican series is based on the draperies of Renaissance painting. The artistic approach consists of separating the original folds from the bodies and depicting them as isolated and newly combined forms. This seems to work particularly well because, in all probability, the original pleats were also used by the painters of the time to create a dramatic effect rather than to depict real garments. Without the figurative reference of the originals, these newly composed folds conceal non-representational patterns that inevitably inspire associations. Bodies, faces, people and animals can be discovered.
