Birth of Van Halen

In my new series ‘The Birth of Van Halen’, I am giving recognition to where this world famous heavy metal ‘dance band’ came from. What did VAN HALEN’s first baby steps exactly look like? When focusing on visuals of their humble beginnings (i.e. rare Live photos, handbills, posters) it becomes clear how important these initial impulsive performances were. By literally ‘blowing up' a forgotten, torn up, photocopied flyer from one of their first backyard gigs onto a 40 x 60 inch canvas ’Backyard Party’ (acrylic on mixed media) Ultimately enabling the viewer to look at each of these early small events as monumental masterful moments.
