Joseph Ayerle - MilanoX

MilanoX is an art project by Joseph Ayerle, originating in 2017 when he created “Un’emozione per sempre 2.0”—the world's first film featuring an AI-generated protagonist. To train the neural network, Ayerle compiled thousands of images of screen icon Ornella Muti, spanning press photos, movie stills, and spreads in Vogue. During this process, the artist realized the image archive transcended mere training data. It evolved into a profound exploration of aesthetics, psychology, and culture, turning Muti's compressed lifespan into a kaleidoscope of fame, femininity, and stardom in our hyper-mediated age. In 2021, Ayerle created 12 algorithmic mosaics, each composed of roughly 5,000 individual portraits of Muti. From a distance, they form a cohesive image, but up close, they reveal a fractal tapestry of identity. Rather than a technical showcase, MilanoX uses this archive to examine how public figures are constructed through image repetition in a post-truth era.
