This piece is a rich, intricate and densely stitched goldwork skull using gilt and copper threads and leather laid over raised padded areas on stretched flock velvet. I have played on long - established Vanitas imagery and preserved, in a new guise, a centuries old and originally ecclesiastic embroidery technique.
