BACK IN THE U.S.S.R. "Back in the U.S.S.R.", was a song released by the Beatles in 1968 on their album "The Beatles", more popularly known by one and all, as the White Album. Written by Paul McCartney, it was a pastiche of both Chuck Berry (who wrote "Back in the U.S.A.) and the Beach Boys (who wrote California Girls) in manner, vocal harmony, and of course the focus on girls. He envisioned it as a light hearted send up of both their recognizable styles. But it took on a more ominous tone when two days before recording (August 22nd) The U.S.S.R. invaded Czechoslovakia. The U.S.S.R. was a vast and ultimately too unwieldly, communist country reaching for world domination; it was also the arch enemy of the U.S. In the 1980's the weight of its’ untenable economic debt, from trying to beat the U. S. in an arms race, caused it to collapse. Today it is represented by mostly its’ core country Russia, which under Czar Putin (at least he likes to think of himself as Czar), is still trying to return to the former power and glory of its’ once mighty Empire. But the Russian people should not be confused with their politicians. I found them to be very warm and interesting people when we visited last summer. Sting also saw it this way with his song "RUSSIANS", noting they love their children too. And when playing concerts in Russia it’s a song Paul McCartney always plays to the adoring cheers of his Russian fans. Surreallascapes: Each Collage is made up of at least 40 different pictures arranged in a landscape where the physical world is real, but the essence is of an alternate dimension. Or a Jigsaw puzzle where the pieces are made to fit together in a dreamlike manner. This will be offered as a signed and numbered print, limited to an edition of 25. Made from 100% rag paper, the 18" X 25" prints include a one-inch border.
