“Homoerotic” explores my own sexuality and my struggle confined to lesbian clichés. I am intrigued by the hypersexed portraits that often accompany gay images and how these can be challenged. Through these collages I provides a wry commentary on identity, sexuality and memory.

Anne Lacheiner-Kuhn was born in Otjiwarongo (“the place where the fat cattle grazes” in Otjiherero), Namibia in 1983. Raised on a remote farm by a Namibian mother and a German father, she grew up with children of Damara, Herero and Ovambo tribes. These formative years created a deep connection with the soil and a profound sense of belonging to the land and unity with its inhabitants. Her favourite toys growing up were a knife, a rope, matches – building the foundation for her knack of “making” (woodwork and metal work). Anne’s work encompasses a multitude of practices including installations, video work, photography and collages. Conceptually, she engages with discourse surrounding identity, collective and individual memory, sexuality and history.
