ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The Dear Grace Series picks up phrases of a letter published in my home town paper rolled in my great grandmothers tatting samples that i use for impressions in my monotypes. The letter was written by an American soldier on the European front to his sweetheart during WWI in 1918.The sentence for this monotypes began, “Dear Grace, was sent up to the front so fast no mail has fought up with me…..” The lace patterns are impressions of my foremothers tatting and lace making while the tissue pattern pieces in the collage are from my collection of patterns I was sewing in the 1970’s.
