ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A powerful expression of modernity through a journey into the imagination. Movingly fluidly between the realms of abstract expressions, fashion, photography; juxtaposes carefully displayed scenes with vignettes from everyday life. Motivation is purely self-expression of its own sake. Rendered in bright colors, the abstract images defy first impressions. The practice of constructing scenes with objects subverts traditional ideas of photography, incorporating elements of both graffiti, paint & collage into the process. By blending a wide range of mediums; photography, poetry, mix media, and superimposed abstract patterns, Abessera’s work provokes both aesthetic and sociological analysis onto the image. Picking up symbols and visual clues from overlaid patterns and messages, the viewer is invited to evoke a deeper subjective emotion, while offering commentary on our contemporary culture.
