Feuillemort is the French word for the colour of a dyeing leaf. This word perfectly encapsulates the work I produce. I am trying to 'hold' nature as it goes through it phases from birth to death to rebirth.

The pastel background of my works are places I have visited both in Australia and abroad. Some places are wild and rugged; whilst others have been domesticated by humans. However, of them are at the mercy of nature.

In my work you gaze through a tree into the landscape. My trees are made using shards of black fired ceramics which I produce. Collected leaves and branches are pressed into the wet clay which is then fired in tins filled with sawdust. The smoke from the sawdust impregnates the clay resulting in a black, textured surface.

This piece is framed in a simple wooden frame which doesn't distract from the image and is ready to hang on your wall.
