Truly virtuous people are like deep pools of water. Not everything about them is apparent at first glance. They possess such remarkable depth of character that it would take quite some time to really know them. They are like the sunken treasures deep beneath the waves. You may not realize it at first, but if you explore your friendship with them, you will discover the treasures for yourself. You may also come to the realization that you wish to cultivate the same depth in your own character. -Lao Tzu (Tao Te Ching)
Great Depth was created on a large 36x72” canvas with several layers of ink wash on Japanese papers. I first created a heavy texture with medium and then over-layed the papers forming a deconstructed abstract wave. There is additional ink and acrylic paint layers added. The final treatment is a skim coat of epoxy resin finished with matte varnish for a look similar to encaustic wax.
