About The Artwork

My childhood magical moments. Early Saturday morning rides with my dad, the open wide fields around our small farming community, the quiet and tranquility of the empty dirt roads and then coming back home, where coffee was already brewed and fresh Challah bread will soon be dipped into honey. As with all my works, the process leads me to new frontiers without me always knowing where I’m going. Sometimes I start with paint, sometimes I start with the papers I collect. I arrange them and find meaning as I go. The subject will emerge eventually, after I've created a suitable habitat. But very often I will continue to work and change the piece for a long time afterwards.

When I was a child my parents would take our family on nature walks and point out and identify birds. As an adult I feel drawn to the subject of birds, their lives and their environments. The birds I observe here, Blackbird, Blue jay and Mourning Dove, are similar to the ones in my homeland. Just as birds gather pieces for their nests, I gather paper pieces from fashion catalogs, old books, music notes, maps, wallpaper sample books and more to create my birds. I also get inspiration from the flora and fauna outside my studio window. Finding shrubs or a branch that creates just the right environment for the assembled bird. I use scrap paper, acrylic paints and found objects on wood. I am a graduate of Beit Berel College, School of Art in Israel. I work, teach and play in my California base studio.
