Joshua Tree #1 Collage

This is a test piece for my series Stones, Paper, Scissors which I hope will become a body of work I do on a much larger scale. I did graphite rubbings of the granite stones in Joshua Tree on to a fine Japanese rice paper, then I make copies of the original rubbings onto a slightly textured paper. I paint the landscape onto hot press sketch book paper, draw the basic outline of the stones in the landscape then I trace the shape of the stone onto parchment paper then cut or tear that shape out of the Xeroxed stone rubbing paper. Blue tape then paste them down into the landscape then draw and paint back into the stone to build it up.
