ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work is inspired by the work of Frank Howell, a painter and printmaker from the Midwest who did many pieces honoring the plains Indians. This represents a figure from the Lakota or Sioux tribes inhabiting the upper plains. I worked with cut and torn paper to produce and image that pays homage to his work and the subject, a Lakota tribal dancer celebrating the harvest season. The feathers have movement and texture that help tell the story of this subject.
