As a big pin-up fan, I was naturally attracted by Marilyn Monroe for my new paper art picture. The paper I used for this portrait is Canson drawing color paper, as I don't want to modify the paper to realize my realistic portraits : my personal challenge ! I'm often asked what is my method and I must admit I don't really have one, since I'm self taught. I mainly work by feeling. I want my pictures to look as realistic as possible, I don't just overlay the sheets : I consider a lot the original picture in 3D to recreate the volume when applying the pieces of paper. If you look closely, you'll get that my work is very intricate. And that's the beauty of if : you'll allway be amazed watching it, discovering tiny details, watching it from a distance to enjoy it like a regular painting, and you'll get closer to realize again that this is actually paper cut art. I'm sure you'll enjoy a lot the reaction of your friends when, getting closer to your picture, they'll exclaim "Is it... is it actually paper ?! No way !" What could be called "paper cutting art", I've discovered it by chance, in 2005, when I was trying to find out why I've never really got interested in collage before. I realized that I could only associate collage with surrealism, abstraction but never with realism. I thought about a way to create a realistic picture just with color paper, a scalpel and glue. Within a few months, I improved a lot my technique before focusing rather on my job and discovering the world. In 2016, after years of travelling or working in different places from New Zealand to South America, teaching beauty and cosmetiques from beauty school to prison, I feel now ready to get back to my old passion and share it with the world.
