About The Artwork
This abstract artwork combines the shapes, rhythms, and patterns of mushroom caps abundantly proliferating around each other to produce a cellular study, a biome. Inspired by the scale of repetition and multiplicity of El Anatsui's found material weaving and Nick Cave's 'Until' installation, I created this piece using ink pens a variety of recycled and repurposed papers to create the individual elements I then collaged onto an acrylic and paper background. Papers used include: -used and new coffee filters -washed tea bags -repurposed paint chip samples -brittle old book pages -decorative art papers -wallpaper This piece comes framed in a custom cherry wood frame; overall dimensions @ 26.5" x 38.5".
