Over the past decade, Martin Cohen has incorporated mixed media"”including photographic cut-outs and found objects"”into his abstract expressionist oil paintings and paper pieces, introducing new textural quality into his work and exploring elements of American popular culture. Martin received a B.F.A. degree from SUNY Purchase where he was inspired by figurative and abstract expressionism which evolved into his own style. After graduating, he studied at the Studio School of New York and then received an M.F.A. degree from Carnegie Mellon where he furthered his artistic development through study with renowned artist Sam Gilliam. Upon completion of his formal education, Martin began to exhibit at various galleries. His works have been acquired by corporate patrons such as the Estée Lauder Companies, Eli Lilly and Company, Citigroup, and Bill Kurtis Productions. His work has been featured in both group and solo exhibitions. Martin has been associated with Fountain Gallery for more than ten years and has presented two solo exhibitions there. The prestigious New York gallery Vivian Horan Fine Art presented a solo exhibition of his work. Martin's work was also showcased at the corporate headquarters of Estée Lauder Companies. Martin Cohen Selected Works was presented at Gallery at New World Stages in the fall of 2010. In October of 2011, Martin participated in a panel discussion and exhibition "Art as Mental Health"at the Museum of Modern Art Education Department.
