About The Artwork

This Paperwall series began with the discovery of original plans. They are the root, the basis of these compositions. At the start of the creation process, these plans are an imprint, a phantom shape (I am thinking of the work of Clay Ketter, his photos of the foundations of destroyed houses which remain the only marks of these disappeared habitats). These plans symbolize the house, our corner of the world, our Cosmos in the words of Gaston Bachelard in his work "The poetics of space". It is a place of refuge, a protection in which man will be able to dream, a daydream that takes us back to childhood. My daydream, inspired by the memory of places, is the second step in the process. I use the wallpaper. I choose it from papers found in flea markets, dated papers. My memory of the place directs this choice. The paper plays a graphic and memorial role. Then I tear it up, in control, either to reveal the bottom layer (art of the palimpsest) or to show a scratch, an attack of time that I can sublimate by filling it with a bright color or an embroidery with golden thread (Art of kintsugi). A duality sets in: wanting to show and wanting to hide.

I work in series, and for each I make graphic choices and adopt an adapted writing. After working on an Identity series, since 2015, I also work on the archive, memory, disappearance. I use the documents left by my grandparents and my parents. So my work, like my identity as granddaughter and daughter, brings to life the traces of their passages. It also brings me back to my own finitude. There is a moment, that of the loss of his two parents, when it is feared that the days after will pass too quickly.
