About The Artwork

URL: https://vimeo.com/69184859 Film still from an experimental film exploring the visual narrative of Homer's 'The Odyssey.' There are twenty two short scenes in this film, each with a completely different method of production. I have explored Surrealist/Dada homemade special effects and film techniques, in addition to digital film-editing software where layers of film, photographs and physical collages are able to be cut up and arranged beside and on top of one another with the intention of creating subtle moving digital images. Penelope, the wife of the famous Odysseus was the unsung hero of the epic and this film is an exploration of her devotion and unwavering loyalty. Exotic imagery is juxtaposed next to commonplace and uninspiring reminders of domesticity in an attempt to communicate Penelope's displacement from her travelling husband. The film also follows a slow, plodding tempo in correspondance with the monotony of a wife's patient twenty years of waiting for a husband who may or may not return.

Shipping & Returns

I am a visual artist, based in Glasgow working with experimental film, sound & collage. My practice explores deconstruction and reconstruction. I am interested in contemporary culture and it’s relationship with the archaic past and I strive to construct imagery which distorts but also unites the two. I attempt to explore the parallels between modern-day perceptions and our antecedent nostalgias as well as the prevalence of nature and landscape running through both. Working primarily with collage and film, shifting forms warp our sense of reality in a way which engages gesture, image sequence, material affect, and displaced narrative.
