Sicily '18 Collage

'Sicily '18' was made from the torn street posters of Sicilian cities during a two year period. I selected the brighter pieces to reflect the vibrancy, colour and life of these places. The rips and tears resemble the accidental street art of torn posters I've seen so many times and the colours are a reflection of the bright light, the noise and the energy of this beautiful island. The torn fragments of posters are set on to cardboard giving the artwork a transient, weather worn and delicate feel and inspired by the torn billboards of Palermo, Catania and Syracuse. The surface texture of the original street posters changes day by day due to the ripping and tearing of passer-bys and thus gives the art its extraordinary texture and appeal. Broken fragments of information from past events all meld together in one screaming and tangled voice. That is, 'Sicily '18'.
