Tom van Soest graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011 with his project Blended Materials in which he made new materials from 100% construction and demolition waste. These innovative recipes eliminate the need for valuable and scarce raw materials. In 2012, Tom founded StoneCycling® (now FRONT®) and further developed the Blended Materials into the WasteBasedBricks®. Together with a team of specialists, ambitious brickworks, investors, architects and builders, the first WasteBasedBricks® slowly came into production. In 2016, the first building built with WasteBasedBricks® was a success, leading to more projects worldwide and a total of 2,286,774 KG of upcycled waste by 2023. At the end of 2023, Tom leaves StoneCycling to embark on a new adventure and founds Blended Materials. This time with its own - from waste to tile - production line. Blended Materials mission is tile made without the use of any raw material: made from 100% waste.
