About The Artwork

This work is the result of a reflection regarding the theme of marriage, as an act that subsists in time; it focuses on different historical periods since its true establishment and the questions it continues to raise today, around issues such as gender, race, sexuality, social costumes... Marriage, above all is a contractual act, socially and traditionally expected in the life of every human being. During the past and still nowadays, in various parts of the world and different extracts of society, it still implies the establishment of diverse economical interests. We have a male figure with afro-Latin characteristics and a caucasian, albino female, celebrating their marriage union. The bride wears the dowry on her head, whilst the groom wears a suit partially covered with bank notes. There is a predatory side to these figures, associated with the need to fulfill social parameters and demonstrate them publicly; with the usual glamour which this type of event involves. There is the inclusion of a snake with horns and a rotten apple (partially seen); these are symbols of biblical themes, such as desire, sin and knowledge. They report to the devil, the first woman created by God and the forbidden fruit. Ultimately it may point out to an exchange which majorly involves everything but love – rather a union based on social/material promises and a dowry accompanying it.
