Art Description

Collage: Paper and Found Objects on Canvas.

A collection of original, vintage magazine covers arranged on painted canvas with a cut three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a lime-waxed, wooden frame.

These classic, home improvement magazine covers are from 1957 and feature hand-drawn, idealized illustrations of domestic life at that time. They would have provided colorful and positive images to assist the population in leaving behind the austerity of post-war Britain.

The bold, geometric shape of the raised rings contribute contrast to the surrounding design and the addition of complimentary fluorescent material on the reverse gives the impression of illumination upon the white canvas behind.

The individual history of each cover is evident in the marks, tears and worn edges of the paper.
