'The Screenwriter' is of Anita Loos who presented me with a portrait of a woman whose vision subverted established patriarchal systems through the character of Lorelei in her social satire screen play ‘Gentle men Prefer Blondes’ 1925. Inspired by witnessing a stereotypical blonde bombshell turn intellectual, Loos created Lorelei to critique the excess of capitalism and consumerism of the United States in the 1920’s. Internalizing materialism Lorelei builds upon her capital of attractiveness by subverting the male gaze and turning the tables on exploitation. She is the object of commodification, a consumer who is also consumer goods, an economic fetishistic object. In the past I have chosen the 'object' of commodification, the model or actor, which I have then fractured. However Anita Loos as a screen writer provides a double vision of social satire past and present. 'The Screenwriter' is printed onto Giclee Hauhnemuhle German etching paper. It is also available is an original paper collage. 'The Screenwriter' was recently part of a group exhibition at The Bromer Art Collection in Switzerland titled 'Lovin 'it: Symbol and Contradiction'.

Taking ownership of images from the past through the act of collage, my work establishes relationships and connections between the existence of one image and it's marriage with another. Photographs duplicated, cut up, divided and re-assembled like a jigsaw puzzle allow me to intervene with the authority of the original in order to create fresh readings born from the disruption of existing signs. .pestaille
