ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I am inspired by the Fairy Tale, The Littler Mermaid. This story is about love but to me it is an immigrant story about a character that travels to a new world and does not have a voice. When I arrived to the USA I could not speak the language. I used to paint scales and as my art work matured I came to a process of abstracting the immigrant story into this technique of carving layers of paint and keeping the carved pieces. I then collage them into a pattern into a new pieces of work which is part of the Yang Series.
