Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
One in a series of purely formal "urban" collages where the black and gray animate the contained blocks of color. The waviness of the fabric as it is glued down contrasts with the straight lines of the "seams" and gives the work a certain tension. The orientation of the stripes guide the eye around the composition which is square and non-hierarchical. The work is on a solid cradled panel made by the artist and floats in a simple modern strip frame with no glass. Ready to hang.

Born in New Jersey in 1950, Will studied at The Art Student’s League of NYC and Cornell University. He has been making geometric abstraction in paint, pastel, wax, collage, assemblage, and fabric since 1974. His work combines rigorous modernist structures with post-modern devices such as appropriation, chance, and seriality. Recent work employs patterned fabrics in the larger pieces and bits of art magazine text, paint chips and reproductions in the collages. Will's recent art is a return to pure formalism, with color relationships predominant.
