In a small, cozy town, there lived a cat named Sonny. Sonny was not just any cat; he was a wise and gentle soul who had been a part of his owner’s life for many years. His golden eyes held the secrets of countless adventures and the warmth of endless love. One day, Sonny fell ill. His owner, a kind-hearted person who had always taken the best care of him, was faced with a heart-wrenching decision. The cost of veterinary care had soared to unimaginable heights, making it nearly impossible for ordinary people to afford life-saving treatments for their beloved pets. The vet had given two options: a costly surgery that might save Sonny’s life or the unthinkable choice of putting him down to avoid financial ruin. As Sonny’s owner stood in their small living room, they looked at the ornate golden frame that held Sonny’s picture. Sonny’s eyes seemed to look back with understanding and trust. The empty basket beside the potted plant symbolized the void that would be left if Sonny were no longer there. The decision weighed heavily on their heart. In the end, despite their best efforts and the support of friends and family, the financial burden was too great. With a heavy heart, they made the painful decision to let Sonny go. Sonny passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. The loss of Sonny left a deep void in their home and heart. The empty basket and the potted plant became symbols of the love and memories they shared. Though Sonny was gone, his spirit lived on in the hearts of those who loved him. The community, touched by the story, rallied to raise awareness about the rising costs of veterinary care, hoping to prevent others from facing the same heartbreaking choice. Sonny’s golden eyes continued to shine in the memories of those who knew him, a reminder of the deep bond between humans and their animal companions, and the importance of compassion and support in times of need. Martine Mooijenkind, also known as Knutseltroep, is a self-taught collage artist and graphic designer from Gouda, The Netherlands. She creates surreal collages using vintage materials and digital techniques. She also works as a care attendant for the disabled . Her artworks have been published in various magazines and online platforms. Mooijenkind started making collages in 2010, when she discovered a box of old magazines in her attic. She soon developed her own style, combining elements from different sources and eras to create surreal scenes and characters. Mooijenkind uses both analog and digital methods to create her collages. She often scans her cut-outs and edits them on Photoshop, adding filters, textures and effects to enhance the mood and atmosphere of her works. She sometimes incorporates her own drawings and photographs into her collages, creating a personal touch. Mooijenkind draws inspiration from various sources, such as music, literature, cinema, nature and dreams. She is influenced by artists such as Hannah Höch, Max Ernst, and Salvador Dali.
