About The Artwork

Ripped paper collage pasted on wood. When a really big wave knocks me over this is what I see and feel. The sea on the exposed side of Ilha de Tavira can be very wild. Because of the endless hot summer sun, getting into the sea for a cooling dip is pretty much an essential part of life. This image, was made from paper that was torn from advertising hoardings after it had been exposed to the sun, rain and wind over a long period. The ripped pieces are an expression of being knocked over and tumbled by the waves as if in a washing machine. The fish are in their element and hardly notice the turmoil.
