ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My model here is Deddeh Howard, a Black model who recreated famous ads to highlight the lack of ethnic diversity in the fashion industry. I aimed to represent her approach by creating flowers, in the style of Murakami, the Japanese artist who helped to give a breath of fresh air to the Louis Vuitton Brand. The loop is complete! What could be called "paper cutting art", I've discovered it by chance, in 2005, when I was trying to find out why I've never really got interested in collage before. I realized that I could only associate collage with surrealism, abstraction but never with realism. I thought about a way to create a realistic picture just with color paper, a scalpel and glue. Within a few months, I improved a lot my technique before focusing rather on my job and discovering the world. In 2016, after years of travelling or working in different places from New Zealand to South America, teaching beauty and cosmetiques from beauty school to prison, I feel now ready to get back to my old passion and share it with the world.
