About The Artwork

New York is one of my favourite artistic muses. The Chrysler Building is one of my ultimate favourites. I love its intricate detail and shapes. This piece was created from an original photograph taken from the top of The Summit, one of New York's newest skyscrapers. I really love the composition with two historic buildings from different eras standing side by side - the 1920's Chrysler next to the 1940's United Nations. There are so many different shapes and repeated patterns to enjoy here too. There's an abstract feel to the image as these patterns run into one another. I coloured the original photograph digitally before printing it on brushed aluminium. This gives the image an etched appearance and picks out the gorgeous details of both buildings. You can see the print in real-life for the first time at The Other Art Fair at the Brooklyn Navy Yard from November 3-6th. Please note: this print is made to order. It can usually be created and delivered in around 3 weeks.

I AM... a digital artist specialising in city-based art. MY WORK... is created by digitally manipulating and colouring my own photographs to produce pieces on usual materials including aluminium, copper, neon, reclaimed wood, mirrors, magnets, vintage windows, and even a 1950's London telephone box. My latest piece features a real running river, complete with whale and shopping trolley floating by. I’m always on the lookout for unusual views and angles for my work. Much of it is created from aerial photographs, taken while hanging out of helicopters. MY LATEST COLLECTION... celebrates the beauty of the city through the shapes, outlines and colours that define its character. London, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Paris, Singapore, Miami, and Dubai all feature. TV STUDIO TO ART STUDIO... Before becoming an artist I spent twenty years working in television. I now work out of my studio at Wimbledon Art Studios, a wonderful creative community in London. RECENT EXHIBITIONS... include The Affordable Art Fair (London, Singapore, New York, Milan), The Other Art Fair (London, New York, Los Angeles), and the charity exhibition Art For Youth at the Mall Galleries. DURING LOCKDOWN... I’ve taken part in numerous online shows including ‘A River Runs Through It’ in a virtual Oxo Gallery. I was a founder member of The V-Art Show, an innovative Show live on Zoom. COMING UP... I will be exhibiting in The Other Art Fair in Brooklyn in March. Use my code MICHAELW20 for 20% off tickets at
