I'm a self-taught artist from the Florida Gulf Coast. My art is more painterly with a touch of abstraction mixed in. If a label is needed to describe my art, it would be 'Expressive Realism'. I utilize a diverse range of media and techniques in my art. Oil paints, acrylics, charcoal, and digital art bring my visions to life. My process for creating art is very meticulous. I love to research my subjects and plan the drawing or painting with different compositions, layouts, and color combinations. I start by creating ideas in my sketchbook or iPad. I've discovered that using software to brainstorm ideas and compositions is a great way to validate my ideas. I use oil and acrylic paints for my paintings. Charcoal is the main component for my drawings—I like the gritty feel and the ease with which I can capture a unique balance or connection between dark and light. I enjoy the buttery blending and range of techniques I can achieve with oils. Since acrylic paint dries very quickly, it allows me to layer the colors and work on larger-scale paintings. My motivation for creating art comes from the need to constantly self-heal. Sometimes, as an artist living in an analytical world, I become overstimulated by the details and demands that I need to conform to. So, through creating art, the universe has me tuned in once again. Even if a piece is a failure, somehow, I'm able to reconnect with the analytical world. Most of my art tells a story. I like creating art that lets the viewer "read" and “feel” the artwork, not just see it. Landscapes and seascapes are recurring themes in my art. However, I do enjoy creating the occasional portrait, nude, or still life in the style of the old master artists. My goal is not to create art that challenges viewers to see the world differently or provoke a conversation. My artwork offers beauty and solace in this analytical world.
