Sofia Cucchi (born 1993 in Italy) currently resides and works in Milan. Her creative journey delves into what she terms "dissociating from reality concreteness," where the familiar is transformed into something unsettling, challenging, and occasionally absurd. This visual exploration sparks intrigue and aims to leave a profound impression. Her artistic pursuits are characterized by a daring to provoke and redefine norms. Sofia draws particular inspiration from the aesthetic of Junji Ito and the absurd yet clever representation of fear in old B movies, particularly in the realm of horror. Primarily utilizing digital tools encompassing both 2D and 3D media, Sofia frequently integrates textiles and clothing, using them as bases for prints or to craft shapes and objects. Her work often incorporates natural materials such as wood and sticks, adding a tactile and organic dimension to the digitally polished outcomes. Sofia graduated from IED Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan with a degree in Fashion Design and pursued postgraduate continuing training courses in arts at UAL Central Saint Martins in London. During the pandemic, she studied Art Therapy at Accademia di Brera, enriching her practice with insights into therapeutic creativity. As a designer with an artist’s sensibility, Sofia's creations reflect a dual focus on observing and celebrating the intriguing facets of beings she encounters. Her work is therefore often driven by a strong commitment to causes like gender and LGBTQ+ equality, animal welfare (including veganism), and comprehensive eco-consciousness. In addition to her current freelance design career, Sofia works as a lecturer at IED Moda Milano, focusing on teaching the creation and management of artworks for fashion printing. Her professional journey includes collaborations with prestigious brands such as Moschino, Off-White, Bvlgari, and others.
