The Impossible Object in Concrete is a surreal, Escher-inspired digital artwork that transforms visual paradox into apparent reality. Neil Stanton is a UK-based artist known for concept-driven and stylistically diverse work. Raised in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire, he now lives in Longridge, Lancashire. He studied at Doncaster College of Art and earned a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and Illustration from De Montfort University, where he later returned as a visiting lecturer. He began his career as a book designer for Inter-Varsity Press before joining Eikon (formerly Gerry Ball Associates) on New Walk, Leicester, working alongside leading commercial illustrators from 1995 to 2007. Specialising in traditional airbrush and mixed media before the digital transition, he produced work for major Midlands agencies and national publishers, including Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press. Alongside his fine-art practice, Stanton built a successful freelance career as a digital illustrator, high-end creative photo-retoucher, and image manipulator for national and international clients across the automotive, architectural, fashion, and FMCG sectors. His artwork has been exhibited and sold through galleries such as Water Street Gallery (Todmorden) and Cromford Gallery (Derbyshire). Working across digital media, 3D rendering, and mixed techniques, Stanton’s art ranges from hyper-real imagery to abstraction. His practice frequently explores perception, the abstracted human form, and the surreal or ironic tensions that arise from bringing conceptual clarity into play with visual ambiguity.
