About The Artwork

Antiphas, the second of Laocoon's sons. Here we see him in his struggle to escape the serpents that were sent by the Gods as we are left to wonder if he truly made it out alive. The Laocoon Group has long been considered the among the greatest sculptures of all time. The sculptors have brought us into the moment with an image of great agony and distress which was set in motion by the Priest's betrayal of the gods. My goal in this series is to bring back the human side of this story in order to allow a more personal connection to the struggles and the price that Lacoon has endured. To me, this piece is yet another statement on the struggles we face as individuals in a society that seems to punish those who do what they think is right in the face of popular opinion.
