About The Artwork

“And there was a war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought [against them], but they could not resist, and there was no longer a place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, the ancient serpent, called the devil and Satan, who deceived the whole universe, was cast out to earth, and his angels were cast out with him” Michael's role in the battle between good and evil influenced many of the eschatological Christian writings. Religious tradition began to ascribe to Michael not only the victory over Satan, but also the role of judge at the Last Judgment, he would call souls with a trumpet voice. The theme of the Archangel Michael weighing the souls of sinners at the Last Judgment has become a traditional motif of the iconography of the Last Judgment, and Michael himself acquired the role of the patron saint of the dead. Diptych form the series based on Russian icons. Monumental drawing. Right now, based in my atelier at Russian academy of fine arts. More photos on my Instagram- philipp_johannes.orlov
