Basilica di San Marco Drawing

The drawing is made with a technique that has the objective of investigating the persistence of an image in the memory, in its formal and conceptual sense. "Basilica di San Marco" is part of the series “ARCHITECTURES” that represents iconic buildings taken out of context and emerging from a vibrant dark background. The images appear to make its way and interrupt the viewer through an interference, like a vision or a memory. The thick layer of reflective graphite, which makes the buildings represented hardly visible when hit in a certain way by the light, suggests the evanescence, but also the persistence, of the memory and its legacy. The artwork address a number of themes: the importance of images persistency in the collective memory, the evocative value of architecture, the way in which time can affect symbols and change cultural landmarks.
