Battersea Power Station. Ink on paper. Ready for framing. Battersea Power Station is my favourite building in London. The architecture of this building is like no other. The four columns have incredible linear strength and height and are natural plinth's for the four chimney's. A power house of architecture. I particularly like the way the chimney lines taper slightly towards the top. This is why the building earned a nickname 'The upturned table', as the chimney's look like table legs. The proportions of the building are just right and irresistible to draw. I made the decision to draw the building as a fully functioning electricity power station with all chimneys emitting smoke. This would have been before any air pollution act. The black ink against white paper adds to the atmosphere and nostalgia. Battersea Power Station is going through transformation at the moment as a residential building. Upgraded and preserved, once again a revamped Power Station for people to enjoy. The objective was to draw Battersea Power Station as a monument to the past. Fully functioning and a lasting testament to great architecture.
