About The Artwork

Following another drawing I did of the same bridge in 2016, this is an alternative perspective of the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle, much closer to it's completion in early 1928. This time as the viewpoint is much lower down along the quayside, there are boats anchored up below and a clearer overall view of how the bridge's arching frame will soon join together. I deliberately left all the pencil smudges in this time, as it helped to enhance the greyness often seen on a cloudy wet day along Tyneside, and also from the boats burning fuels. There are no figures walking along the tightropes high above today, but there are some shadowed figures down on the left-hand walk-way.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Inspired by mid-twentieth century monochrome photography and found objects, William seeks to create bold visual stories which hold a strong sense of ambiguous narrative and intrigue, ranging in theme from the socially historic to the surreal. William produces original paintings and drawings, as well as scaled-down high quality framed art prints of his work - all of which can be purchased directly from this website. As well as continuously producing original works, it is also possible to request a private commission. William also established Gateshead Open Studios in 2018 - the very first open studios event in the area. Following a similar model to Ouseburn’s Open Studios, this event differed slightly in that it also included historical & cultural venues - as Gateshead has a rich history of grand churches & Quaker houses well worth exploring. Despite the recent events of the COVID-19 pandemic and needing to cancel the 2020 event, the hope is to resume in 2021 if all goes well
