ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I'm continuing to copy old master paintings in order to improve my artistic abilities. I found this powerful portrait by Rembrandt when browsing the Web. I was amazed by the strong and modern composition. It's hard to believe this is a Baroque artwork. I decided I wanted to copy this work, and Rembrandt is certainly one of the best portraitists. I also thought, because of the Tenebrist lighting, that this would be interesting to try as a conte crayon drawing on toned paper.
