ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I visited Cabo San Lucas in 2011. One morning, I got up to explore the town and draw a map. As I stumbled past the drunk American tourists, it quickly became evident that Cabo San Lucas is very small and that I'd allotted more space than was needed for the map... but then I kind of liked the nothingness around this tiny little tourist enclave. I included the map in an essay, written for my series, "Where Fools Fear to Tread."

Eric Brightwell is an adventurer, explorer, cartographer, guerilla gardener, and writer... Eric Brightwell was born in Iowa City, Iowa but primarily raised in Lexington, Kentucky and Columbia, Missouri. Inspired by fantasy maps and text adventure computer games, he began drawing maps when he was about nine years old. He studied film theory at the University of Iowa where he made a point of visiting every block of every street in the city and its suburbs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he began exploring and drawing maps again, beginning with a map of Elysian Park.
