ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Here in NY the rain has been relentless and as a result I am feeling particularly isolated. My strategy has been to create friends who are parts of myself. The creation of these individuals feel similar to creating characters in theater, imbuing them with humanity, a back story and a dream. I have priced them to be affordable. I use pop culture references focusing on celebrity, fashion, and cinema in combination with my private emotional life that changes from day to day. Using images that I find in the halls of the internet and transform through my imagination (as well as photographs that I take myself), I switch back and forth between oils and water-based paints to keep the flows of the painting as fresh as possible. Having grown up as the daughter of a staff LIFE photographer, my connection to photographs is particularly profound. I grew up thinking in pictures.
