Juan Yoc, was born in Guatemala City in 1960. The Maya roots are reflected in the work through his particular vision based on magical realism, the mixture of mythological creatures and animals that coexist within a dreamlike space, where the figure Feminine occupies a predominant place. Currently Yoc resides in Spain where he arrived to stay in 1991. He lives in the mountains of Madrid next to a natural environment. Yoc dominates the drawing, the engraving, the watercolor and the painting. Use mixed techniques integrating oil, acrylic, watercolor, inks, charcoal, pen, marker pen and pencil. He is able to draw like Alberto Durero or Francisco de Goya, has assimilated the techniques of the great masters, but he has been profiling his own personality creating an unmistakable seal. Its supports are paper, cardboard, wood, canvas and any surface to be transformed by his creative hand. Juan Yoc is a figurative artist mainly as a draftsman, but as a plastic artist he dares with abstract painting and also paints figurative works and in some cases mixes abstraction and figuration in the same work. He fluently manipulates the color he has inherited from the colorful riches of Guatemalan looms, the visual richness of the tropical landscapes of his native Guatemala and has integrated the light variant of the seasonal changes of Spain. He has received several prizes of drawing and painting in Spain and Guatemala.
