My name is Yana Gorelik, I'm an artist and illustrator. I am a storyteller, but my tales unfold in the delicate yet vibrant language of color and form, often finding their home upon the intimate surface of paper. I work only in hand techniques, love to feel the textures, colors and some randomness of the process- not being able to go back, to be very accurate and connected to what I do, to express the moment. For me, drawing is the most profound way to give voice to the narratives that reside within. It is a constant exploration, a dance between the visual worlds I create and the unspoken words that inspire them. My artistic journey is about translating the intricate language of my inner world onto this receptive surface, seeking the perfect visual vocabulary to articulate feelings and ideas that often transcend the limitations of spoken words, bridging the seen and the deeply felt. The themes that resonate within me and find their expression in my art explore the core of the human experience, reaching beyond the confines of time and culture. I delve into philosophical inquiries about existence, the delicate balance between solitude and connection, the intimacy of human relationships, and the weighty power of silence. The exploration of these themes often leads me to biomorphic fusions, where organic forms intertwine and evolve, reflecting the fluid and interconnected nature of these concepts. This approach is a guiding principle in my artistic journey, allowing me to express the delicate balance and constant transformation inherent in the human experience. Through the act of painting on paper, I give these inner landscapes tangible form. Working often in series allows me to immerse myself in these emotional landscapes, mapping the complexities of my inner world through layers of color and texture applied to this immediate and tactile medium. Each drawing, each deliberate mark on the paper, is a step in translating an internal narrative into a visible one. It is a process of giving form to fleeting emotions and abstract concepts. While the worlds I create may not always mirror external reality, the emotions they embody are undeniably true. It is this emotional authenticity that guides my hand, allowing even fantastical imagery to resonate with genuine feeling.
